Saugatuck Brewing partners with DNR for trout season

SAUGATUCKSaugatuck Brewing Co. and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources are partnering to raise funds for habitat restoration.

For the entire trout fishing season, which runs May-October, Saugatuck Brewing will donate to the DNR for every case sold of Rainbow Rodeo IPA.

“We are beyond excited about joining the DNR in finding new ways to help solve old problems,” Saugatuck Brewing CEO John Miller wrote in a release.

Patrick Mohney of the DNR told The Sentinel the decision to put money directly into habitat restoration was based on a collaborative approach between the parties.

“It’s a great partnership," Mohney said. “We're excited. They’re fantastic to work with.”

The DNR, responsible for managing approximately 4.6 million acres of state land, will use the funds for ongoing water conservation efforts, including invasive species control, fish population expansion and future sustainable fishing.

Rainbow Rodeo IPA was selected based on the theme of the drink, which focuses on water quality with a cowgirl riding a fish on the packaging.

While the brewing company and its retailers and distributors will take the lead with their donations, the campaign also welcomes contributions from the public, accepted until Sept. 30 by texting "RODEO" to 80888.
