'Saturday Night Live' #TBT: 'The Jay-Z Story', starring awkward white guys

The nearest subway trains are the J and the Z … and that, friends, is how Jay-Z got his rapper name.

That’s according to Saturday Night Live‘s hilarious faux Shawn Carter biopic. Jay-Z is the musical guest for next week’s 43rd season premiere, so we dug up this clip from 2015.

The rapper is played by geeky white guy Mike O’Brien, who squeals, “This is insane; I can’t believe I’m great at rap!” He also bashfully ducks his head when he sees Beyoncé for the first time.

Other notable figures are also played by awkward white dudes, such as Jason Sudeikis as Kanye West.

When his Kanye admits he wants to be a rapper too, Jay-Z encourages him. “Holy guacamole!” Kanye sighs in relief. Then they head off to “practice rapping.”

There’s also host J.K. Simmons as Nas, who ends their beef by asking, “Buds?” Yes, best buds forever!

SNL Season 43 debuts Sept. 30 with host Ryan Gosling and musical guest Jay-Z.
