Saturday Night Live: Alec Baldwin to Play Donald Trump This Season
Alec Baldwin‘s latest role makes 30 Rock‘s Jack Donaghy look like a Prius-driving, NPR-subscribing, Greenpeace-supporting leftie.
The 16-time (!) Saturday Night Live host will play Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump throughout the series upcoming 42nd season, TVLine has confirmed.
The late-night, sketch-comedy series made the news official Wednesday with a video (see above) posted to its Twitter account.
Former SNL cast member and current SNL announcer Darrell Hammond portrayed the GOP candidate for the series’ 41st season; Hammond will continue as announcer and occasionally will appear in sketches, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Look for the long-running comedy to use Baldwin in a manner similar to how it used Larry David, who portrayed then-presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, last season.
Baldwin will make his debut as Trump in the season premiere, hosted by Suicide Squad‘s Margot Robbie, on Saturday (11:30/10:30c, NBC). Other Season 42 hosts include Hamilton phenom Lin-Manuel Miranda and The Girl on the Train star Emily Blunt.
