Sarasota Co. to host public meetings on trash collection changes

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Sarasota County is looking forward to a “Fresh Start with a Cart.”

The solid waste department is making changes to its trash collection service.

The county is ending its contract with Waste Management and moving forward with two new trash haulers. FCC Environmental Services of Florida will service the southern part of the county, while Waste Pro of Florida will work in the northern portion.

The new trash collection services will start March 31, 2025.

It’s unclear how collection will change for specific neighborhoods. Leaders at the department say they’re focused on affordability, productivity and technology improvements.

The county will host three public meetings to answer questions from members of the community. Residents can learn about changes to services and proposed assessment rates on these dates:

  • Monday, April 15

    • William H. Jervey Jr. Venice Library, 300 Nokomis Avenue S., Venice

  • Tuesday, April 16

    • Gulf Gate Library, 7112 Curtis Avenue, Sarasota

  • Thursday, April 18

    • Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library, 2801 Newtown Boulevard, Sarasota
