White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders took a nasty shot at Vanity Fair on Tuesday, calling the magazine “unreliable” and unfit reading that would be better used as a “coaster.”

“I would not use Vanity Fair for much other than a coaster,” she said in an interview on “Fox & Friends.” “I don’t think that it is a reliable source of information.”

Sanders had been responding to a question from the show’s Steve Doocy about a Vanity Fair exclusive suggesting that White House Chief of Staff John Kelly may be on his way out.

“There’s a story out in Vanity Fair — I’m sure you’ve seen it — that John F. Kelly, the Chief of Staff is apparently in trouble with the White House and Ivanka herself [has] launched some search for a replacement. How much of that is true?”

The piece Doocy referenced appears to be this from White House chronicler — and frequent Fox News critic — Gabriel Sherman.

“The prospect of a Trump-Kelly rupture became more probable as news of their clashes over immigration leaked,” writes Sherman. “Trump has increasingly been chafing at the media narrative that he needs Kelly to instill discipline on his freewheeling management style.”

It certainly looks like President Trump was watching. Shortly after the segment aired, he launched a tweet lauding Kelly’s performance in the White House.

“Thank you to General John Kelly, who is doing a fantastic job, and all of the Staff and others in the White House, for a job well done,” said Trump “Long hours and Fake reporting makes your job more difficult, but it is always great to WIN, and few have won more than us!”
