Santa Rosa County cold weather shelter opens tonight

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — Santa Rosa County is opening a cold weather shelter tonight and tomorrow (Monday, March 18, and Tuesday, March 19.)

Those without heat can arrive between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. at Ferris Hill Baptist Church, according to a news release. No one will be allowed into the shelter after 8:30 p.m. unless brought in by law enforcement. The shelter closes at 7 a.m. each morning.

LOCATION:

The shelter, operated by Ferris Hill Baptist Church, opens every night when the temperature is expected to drop below 40 degrees (typically November through March).

Tonight’s and tomorrow’s shelter opens ahead of freezing temperatures in northwest Florida, based on the latest forecasts.

No one will be admitted to the shelter who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Officials say that only service animals with verification of a rabies vaccine are allowed to stay with guests.
