Santa and Randolph County Sheriff team up for annual open house

The Randolph County Sheriff's Office hopes their upcoming open house will get the community into the holiday spirit.

An annual event that serves as a kickoff of to the various holiday events throughout the county, the open house is a family-friendly holiday event, according to information from the Sheriff's Office. It's held on Dec. 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at 727 McDowell Rd. in Asheboro.

"Citizens are invited to come out, and bring the kids for Cookies with Santa again this year," reads a message from the Sheriff's Office. "Some of our K9s will be present with their handlers. We will have the reading of the Christmas Story at 7:00 pm. Back by popular demand to perform, the West Bend Methodist Church Hand Bell Choir."

It also allows Randolph County children to participate in letters to Santa a decades-old practice conducted in communities across the world.

"Children wanting to send letters to Santa Claus can drop off their letters at the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office located at 727 McDowell Rd., Asheboro, November 21st through December 16th, Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm, and 305 Balfour Dr., Archdale, Monday – Friday, 8 am – 4 pm," reads information from the Sheriff's Office. "The mailbox will be just inside our first-floor elevator lobby."

Submitted letters to Santa must include a return address in order to get a reply.

The Sheriff's Office open house will come almost a week after Asheboro's Christmas Parade.

An annual event, the parade takes place at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2 in the downtown area. Admission is free.
