Santa Fe gas price dips below $3 for first time since June 2021

Dec. 12—The average price for regular gasoline in Santa Fe dropped below $3 per gallon for the first time since June 25, 2021, AAA New Mexico Weekend Gas Watch reported Thursday.

AAA reported a Santa Fe average Thursday of $2.96, a 12-cent drop from the prior week and a 39 percent drop since the record high of $4.89 on June 11.

New Mexico's average price rests at $3.14, also a 12-cent decline from the prior week and 19 cents lower than the $3.33 national average. New Mexico had the 19th lowest average gas price as calculated by AAA.

AAA attributes the dropping prices to OPEC+ deciding not to change production output and crude oil prices remaining below $80 per barrel.

Albuquerque dropped below $3 one week before Santa Fe and on Thursday had an average price of $2.89, while Las Cruces drivers paid $3.28 and Farmington had an average of $3.72.

The most expensive gas remains in Hawaii at $5.17 per gallon, the only state now above $5, and Texas and Oklahoma are the two cheapest states at $2.76 and $2.82, respectively.
