Sanford man sentenced after high-speed chase

May 18—A 30-year-old Sanford man was sentenced to one to two years in the North Carolina Department of Corrections on Monday.

Marquise Laurice Wilson was arrested Aug. 7 for eluding police on Aug. 3. He posted a $5,000 bond on Aug. 7.

According to a Nov. 13 indictment, Wilson was traveling 130 mph in a 35-mph zone in Lemon Springs.

Police interacted with Wilson following a traffic stop for a suspicious vehicle, a court document states. However, Wilson would not unlock his door and drove off while near Watson Avenue and Main Street in Sanford.

Wilson pleaded guilty to eluding arrest in a motor vehicle with two aggravating factors.

He was also charged with reckless driving, failure to heed lights or siren, resisting or obstructing an officer and speeding. Those were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Judge Patrick T. Nadolski sentenced Wilson and also fined him $355.

Wilson has 10 prior convictions, according to eCourts, including at least three felonies. Some of the offenses were for assault on a female, maintaining a place for sale of a controlled substance and felony possession of cocaine.

The offenses were in Lee and Wake counties.

Wilson also had his probation revoked on May 13. He had been placed on probation in Wake County on May 13, 2022, for destroying evidence and drug possession and received a suspended four-to-14-month sentence.

That revoked sentence will run concurrently with his sentence for eluding arrest.
