Sanford man indicted for kidnapping

May 11—A 53-year-old Sanford man who was charged with three misdemeanors now faces a felony indictment for second-degree kidnapping.

Lorenzo Martinez Vela was arrested Feb. 20 and charged with three misdemeanors, including assault on a female, communicating threats and assault by pointing a gun.

He was indicted on March 4 for kidnapping.

According to a court document, Martinez Vela kidnapped Fabiola Gomez San Juan for the purpose of terrorizing her and doing serious bodily harm.

His bond was set at $50,000 on Feb. 20, however U.S. Immigration and Customs and Enforcement (ICE) filed a detainer for Martinez Vela on Feb. 21, according to eCourts. Such are requests are used to hold persons residing in the country illegally.

On Wednesday, Martinez Vela was being held in the Lee County Jail.

District Court Judge James Craig ordered that Martinez Vela have no contact with the alleged victim.

The alleged offenses occurred on Jan. 31 and Feb. 4.

An administrative hearing is set in the case for June 10.
