SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – San Francisco resident Thea Hopkins was charged in connection to an attack on an elderly monolingual Cantonese-speaking woman in Bayview, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced Friday.

Hopkins allegedly attacked the victim from behind, grabbing her hair, punching her several times and throwing her to the ground on the 1000 block of Gilman Avenue on March 4.

“Everyone should be able to walk around our city freely without fear of being viciously attacked,” said Jenkins. “My office will do everything in our power on behalf of this victim, and every San Franciscan, to fight for justice in the courtroom and ensure that there is accountability in this case. Brazen, unprovoked acts of violence against our seniors will not be tolerated.”

Hopkins, 43, was charged with one count of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury and one count of elder abuse with force likely to cause great bodily injury.

Hopkins plead not guilty to all charges.

Hopkins’s next court date is scheduled for March 20.

Despite charges being filed, the investigation is active. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at (415) 575-4444.
