SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said the city's embattled police chief, Greg Suhr, tendered his resignation on Thursday afternoon, just hours after an officer fatally shot a black woman.

The police department and Suhr have faced mounting criticism and protests for months in the wake of several high-profile police killings and a racist text scandal that have rocked the department.
