San Francisco Italian restaurant Che Fico Alimentari announcing it is closing

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Che Fico Alimentari, an Italian restaurant located at 834 Divisadero that opened in 2019, is closing, according to a post on its Instagram page. The restaurant is a more casual and affordably priced offshoot of upstairs restaurant Che Fico at 838 Divisadero.

In the post announcing the closure, Che Fico Alimentari cited a number of factors behind the decisions including post-pandemic recovery and “new economic realities” that made it “clear that its current model was unsustainable.”

“Che Fico Alimentari was our most dynamic venue pre-pandemic: spry, vibrant, and thrilling to launch,” the Instagram post said.

“Our patrons showed fierce loyalty, and during the global pandemic, it became ‘the little engine that could,’ keeping our lights on and our community nourished through the Che Fico Family Meal Program, thanks to incredible donors and a dedicated team that worked tirelessly,” the post continued.

But despite efforts to adapt to the new reality by providing to-go services and pantry items, adjusting prices, and catering private events, the restaurant was unable to overcome the challenges.

As part of the closure, the restaurant has announced plans to integrate the two Divisadero locations into one restaurant.

“We are excited to announce transformative changes, allowing the space to evolve,” the post said. “Soon, Che Fico (upstairs) and Che Fico (downstairs) will unite, creating a single, cohesive experience.”
