San Diego City College men’s basketball team heads to state championship quarterfinals

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego City College (SDCC) men’s basketball team is headed to the 3C2A state championship quarterfinals for the first time since 2018.

The No. 2 seed Knights, who have won 10 games in a row, beat No. 10 seed Allan Hancock College with a final score of 64-61 in overtime Saturday night.

Following their win, the Knights will play No. 3 seed Yuba College at 1 p.m. Friday in the state championship quarterfinals. The state quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game will be held at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

This is the fourth time the Knights have made it to the quarterfinals since Mitch Charlens joined as head coach in 2004-2005. Charlens also led the team to the elite eight in 2009, 2017 and 2018.

The Knights won the state championship in 2017 and reached the final for a second consecutive year in 2018, but ultimately lost to the City College of San Francisco Rams.

Friday’s quarterfinal will be broadcast live by Bay Area Online Sports Network (BAOSN).
