Authorities believe it was Cedric Anderson, 53, who walked into a San Bernardino elementary school April 10 and shot four people, three of whom died. Police are calling the incident a murder-suicide, as Anderson and his wife Karen Smith (both pictured above) were both found dead - an 8-year-old student who was also shot later died in the hospital of gunshot-related injuries.

According to NBC Washington, Anderson and Smith, the teacher in the classroom Anderson allegedly shot into, got married in January of this year. Anderson’s continued Facebook posts through mid-March indicated no problems in their marriage, but multiple outlets report Smith left him just a month after their wedding.

"No one has come forward to say they saw this coming," Chief Jarrod Burguan told press shortly earlier today, though he did note Anderson had faced domestic violence and weapons charges in the past.

Though the couple had only been married a month before they separated, NBC News reports they’d been together several years. Family told the station Smith had “[grown terrified]” of her husband in recent months, but did not elaborate further; they only said she kept their issues quiet and never filed a police report.

Police have not confirmed an exact motive for the suspect’s alleged actions and have released no more information on the 9-year-old still in critical condition from the shooting.
