The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has bolstered public safety with the addition of 13 deputies among three county supervisory districts.

Thirteen new deputies have been added to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in an effort to bolster public safety across three county supervisory districts.

The additional deputies strategically be placed across the district, focusing on areas identified as priority zones for crime prevention and proactive policing efforts. Their duties will encompass various responsibilities, including community patrols, response to emergency calls, and proactive crime prevention.

Seven of those deputies will patrol the High Desert, according to District 1 Supervisor Ret. Col. Paul Cook.

“The safety of our communities is always a top priority,” Cook said. “By adding additional law enforcement resources to the 1st District, we are continuing our promise to protect the quality of life for our residents.”

Two deputies were stationed at the Twin Peaks sheriff’s station within District 3.

“I am pleased to announce the addition of two deputies to bolster public safety efforts within the mountain communities,” Supervisor Dawn Rowe said. “These new positions reflect the board’s commitment to proactive crime prevention.

The deputies were placed with help from Sheriff Shannon Dicus, Rowe added.

"We aim to enhance the safety and well-being of residents and businesses in the mountain communities,” she said.

Four deputies were added to District 5, which encompasses San Bernardino, Colton, and Rialto.

“Adding four deputies in our unincorporated areas means we are really stepping up for our underserved neighborhoods, especially where it’s needed most," Supervisor Joe Baca Jr. said. "It’s about making sure everyone, no matter where they live, feels safe and looked after.”

Deputy deployment

All deputies will start on May 4 and are funded by the 2023-2024 adopted budget by the board. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the sheriff’s department and the county board.

Recognizing the need to enhance law enforcement presence and community engagement, the deployment of these additional deputies signifies a proactive approach to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and small businesses within the districts, the board said.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is the law enforcement agency for the largest geographical county in the nation. The department serves over 2.1 million residents, with eight county and 14 contract patrol stations and over 4,200 employees.
