San Angelo Health Foundation selects new trustee, non-profits awarded

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The San Angelo Health Foundation announced on March 21 that a new trustee has been selected and eight area non-profits have been awarded in the foundation’s first quarter.

Shane Plymell has been elected as a new trustee for the San Angelo Health Foundation, according to a release. Plymell is a longtime healthcare advocate who is involved in many state community boards including the Texas Hospital Association Foundation Board. He was also named the Shannon Medical Center Chief Executive Officer in 2017.

Plymell has attended many universities including the University of Texas of the Permian Basin where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in accounting and information systems. He went on to attend Texas Tech University where he received an MBA. Plymell also has attended SMU Cox School of Business Management and Development Program and is a certified public accountant.

The press release shared that Plymell’s qualifications and dedication to serving are an asset to the board of trustees and will align with the foundation’s mission “to enhance the quality of life for the people of the San Angelo area.”

Along with announcing the new trustee, Grants Committee Chair Carlos Rodriguez announced eight area non-profits that have been awarded $617,236 during the first quarter. These include:

  • Concho Valley Turning Point – $50,000 was awarded to expand the men’s transitional housing program.

  • Knickerbocker Community Center – $20,000 was awarded for renovations to the nearly 100-year-old historic building.

  • Pregnancy Help Center of the Concho Valley – $125,000 was awarded to add to the STD clinic.

  • Rusted and Weather INC. – $20,000 was awarded to provide home repairs for low-income, veterans, elderly and disabled individuals.

  • San Angelo Diabetes Coalition – $125,000 was awarded to provide nutrition services and diabetic education to the Concho Valley.

  • San Angelo Early Childhood Center – $222,336 was awarded to provide tuition assistance.

  • Sierra Vista United Methodist Church Friend’s Class Bunk & a Prayer Program – $25,000 was awarded to purchase beds bedding and materials to build beds along with adding a secure warehouse space to build and inventory to fulfill immediate needs.

  • Texas Ramps Project – $30,000 was awarded to build wheelchair ramps for residents in the Concho Valley.

Since the San Angelo Health Foundation began, 244 organizations and 923 projects have been awarded over $66 million in foundation funding.
