Samsung’s gorgeous new Galaxy S5 UI may offer Google Now, Metro features

Confirmed: Samsung will announce the Galaxy S5 later this month

Often criticized for its clunky TouchWiz user interface built on top of Android, Samsung may be working on a completely new UI for the Galaxy S5 and other upcoming phones, a fresh leak originating from @evleaks shows. The same source has recently provided similar images that suggest the South Korean Android device maker may be redesigning its smartphone UI, although the company is yet to make them official. The new leak seems to suggest that the new UI will combine a few elements from Google’s Google Now search-based virtual assistant with elements from Microsoft’s Metro UI found on top of Windows Phone devices.

Metro-like tiles seem to display specific information in a Google Now-like fashion. There are “cards” for weather, fitness apps, social networking, flight information, restaurant reservations, concerts, sporting events, deliveries and purchases, and even a hint of services based on smart home integration. Furthermore, the new Samsung UI seems to pack a vertical scrolling feature akin to what Metro UI has to offer.

Samsung has already updated the look of its tablet UI in its new Pro-labeled series for Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab tablets that were unveiled at CES 2014. A previously leaked set of screenshots supposedly showing Samsung’s new UI for Android smartphones is available below.
