Samsung’s $1 billion payout to Apple can wait until next year

Apple still wants to ban Samsung phones that aren’t even for sale anymore

Winning a patent suit isn’t like pulling up three sevens on a slot machine — that is, winners shouldn’t expect instant gratification. And FOSS Patents writes that Apple (AAPL) will be more than happy to wait until next year to collect its $1 billion from rival Samsung (005930), especially since it can withhold payments for some components that Samsung supplies until the company is ready to pay up. FOSS Patents also says that Apple may not have much of a choice but to wait since post-trial motions for the case won’t be held until December 6th and Apple will have to wait at least two weeks after those hearings to conclude before it collects its award.
