Samantha Bee's defiant apology after calling Ivanka Trump a 'C-Word'

Samantha Bee opened Wednesday's Full Frontal with an apology for calling Ivanka Trump a "feckless c***." While she had already issued an apology on Twitter, this apology was much longer and much less contrite. Initially, Bee defended her use of the word saying, "It is a word I have used on the show many times, hoping to reclaim it." But she then admitted, "This time I used it as an insult. I crossed the line, I regret it and I do apologize for that." Bee apologized to the women she offended. She said, "Many women have heard that word at the worst moments of their lives. A lot of women don't want that word reclaimed, they won't it gone and I don't blame them. I want this show to be honest and I never intended it to hurt anyone, except Ted Cruz." Bee wasn't quite as verbose when addressing the men she offended. Bee said, "Many men were also offended by my use of the word. I do not care about that." Bee even apologized for hoggin the news cycle. Bee said, "I hate that I did something to contribute to the nightmare of 24-hour news cycles that were all white-knuckling through. I should have known that a potty perfect mouthed insult would be inherently more interesting to them then child immigrant policies." But in the end, Samantha reminded viewers that maybe there are more important things to worry about than a comedian calling someone a c***. She said, if you are worried about the death of civility, don't sweat it….I'm really sorry that I said that word but you know what, civility is just nice words. Maybe we should all worry a little bit more about the niceness of our actions." Full Frontal with Samantha Bee airs Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. on TBS.
