Sam Rockwell thanks women in SAG Awards speech: 'I stand with you'
Sam Rockwell’s stellar awards season continued at the 24th annual SAG Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night. After taking home both the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award in the same category, Rockwell scored a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
“My mom and dad were actors, they dragged me to rehearsals when I was a little baby. I slowly realized that these people are nuts,” Rockwell joked in his acceptance speech, before encouraging struggling actors to “hang in there.” He also thanked his female costars, saying, “I stand with you and all of the incredible women in this room who are trying to make things better. It’s long overdue.”
Rockwell took home the prize for his portrayal of Officer Jason Dixon, a man who helps a grieving mother try to solve the rape and murder of her daughter in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. This marked his fourth overall SAG nomination and his first individual nomination with all other nods coming as part of a group for “Outstanding Performance by a Cast.”
He beat out fellow nominees Steve Carell (Battle of the Sexes), Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project), Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water), and Three Billboards costar Woody Harrelson.
