Saluting the class of 2024: Tuscaloosa high schools hold graduation ceremonies

Hundreds of students became high school graduates this month as commencement ceremonies were held at Tuscaloosa's city, county and private schools.

Central and Northridge held the area's first high school graduation ceremonies on May 13, followed by Paul W. Bryant High on May 14. The three high schools in the Tuscaloosa City Schools system held their graduation ceremonies at Coleman Coliseum on the University of Alabama campus.

According to Tuscaloosa City Schools, 675 seniors graduated from the system this year. The Class of 2024 included 172 graduates at Central High School, 278 graduates from Northridge High School and 225 from Paul W. Bryant High School.

In the Tuscaloosa County School System, Hillcrest High held its graduation at the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater and Holt High's ceremony was at the Church of the Highlands. Sipsey Valley High, Brookwood High, Northside High and Tuscaloosa County High all held their ceremonies on campus,

The Tuscaloosa County School System had a total of 1,151 graduates: 228 from Hillcrest, 112 from Sipsey Valley, 90 from Northside, 338 from TCHS, 71 from Holt, 250 from Brookwood and two from the Lloyd Wood Education Center.

Among the private schools, American Christian Academy held its ceremony at the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater and Tuscaloosa Christian School held its ceremony at One Hope Church on McFarland Boulevard. Holy Spirit Catholic High School, Tuscaloosa Academy and North River Christian Academy all held their ceremonies on campus.

Next up is the Class of 2025: Tuscaloosa City Schools will begin the 2024-25 year on Aug. 7, while the Tuscaloosa County School System will return to the classrooms on Aug. 8.
