Salem 7th grader wins Radford University regional spelling bee, advances to nationals

RADFORD, Va. (WFXR) — One 7th-grade student from Salem is getting ready to take on the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

On Saturday, March 16, Audrey Lee, a 7th-grade student at Andrew Lewis Middle School took home the win for the Radford University Regional Scripps Spelling Bee. The competition was held at Radford University.

Audrey bested 23 competitors from regional public school districts and private schools, winning in 12 rounds. Now Audry will compete at Bee Week 2024 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.

Bee Week kicks off with preliminary rounds on May 28 and ends on May 30 with finals.
