Never-Driven 964 RSR Sells for $2.25 Million
Here's a remarkable find–a brand-new 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR. Though this RSR looks pretty grimy in pictures, it's actually as close to a brand-new car as you can get, with only 10 km on its odometer. The car still wears its factory-applied cosmoline rust protection - it's that unmolested. Want it? You're too late, unfortunately. It just sold for $2.25 million at RM Sotheby's Villa Erba event this past weekend.
This car's incredibly low mileage isn't the only thing that makes it unique. It's one of only 51 964 Carrera RSRs ever built, and this one features some rather peculiar options. The RSR was built as a track-ready beast, but in spite of that, the original customer specified it with a full red leather interior. The 964 Carrera RSR combined the 911 Turbo's wide body with a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat-six that pumps out an impressive 350 horsepower. Other RSRs went on to earn class wins at Le Mans, Daytona, and Sebring while this silver example languished unused.
While this example is as close to brand-new as a car from 1993 can get, it will need some work if the buyer intends on driving it. Cars aren't meant to sit this long without being driven.
We're not entirely sure why someone would order such an oddly specific, wildly expensive car from Porsche and never ever drive it. Regardless, we we urge its new owner to drive this car, or at least clean it up. It deserves better.
