Saint Benedict Orthodox Church blesses Lake Wichita

Saint Benedict Orthodox Church held a blessing ceremony at Lake Wichita on Sunday, January 30, 2022.

It is a custom in the faith to bless the local bodies of water and to thank God for what he has provided.

"This is the season of Holy Epiphany," said Father Peter Kavanaugh. "So we remember how God manifests in our life."

Members of the church and community walked in procession as they sang hymns of praise.

"Jesus transformed the everyday stuff for us," said Deacon Moses. "It's touched by Jesus, so that's what makes it holy."

The group gave thanks for Lake Wichita and the surrounding bodies of water that we live near.
