Sailor dies during training at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown

YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) — A U.S. Navy sailor died during a training exercise on Sunday night at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown.

The Navy shared few details in a release on Monday, but said NWS Yorktown was conducting security boat training and familiarization on the York River at the time. The sailor fell overboard around 8:05 p.m., and injuries sustained during that fall were fatal, the Navy says.

There are no other details at this time, but the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Navy says the sailor’s identity will be released after next-of-kin notification.
