Safety, Driver Assistance, and Warranty
Safety, Driver Assistance, and Warranty Rating:
It may have missed the best crash-test ratings by a wide margin, but the Grand Cherokee still offers a comprehensive list of passive- and active-safety features. We struggled to install our rear-facing infant seat, so buyers with children should plan to test their own seat in the Grand Cherokee before buying.
What's New for 2019?
All Grand Cherokees now come with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as standard, but that hasn't altered the mid-size Jeep's safety ratings from NHTSA or IIHS. Jeep's warranty also carries over unchanged to 2019.
Crash-Test Results
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the nonprofit, independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluate vehicles for crashworthiness in the United States. NHTSA assigns cars an overall rating out of five stars. IIHS uses a different set of tests, grades cars on a scale of Good to Poor, and awards the vehicles that perform best across its tests with Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ honors, the latter of which requires that the subject's automated forward-collision-braking system performs well.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Jeep offers the same, wholly average warranty coverage on the Grand Cherokee as it did last year and it's still outdone by the Hyundai Santa Fe's and the Kia Sorento's longer policies.
