Sadie Robertson Shares Her Secret Eating Disorder Battle
“Duck Dynasty” alum Sadie Robertson recently opened up about her secret battle against an eating disorder.
On Saturday, the reality TV star penned a lengthy blog post about her eating disorder and revealed that she kept it from everyone, including her own family. “I struggled with an eating problem connected to a negative body image. It was dark. It was ugly. It was insanely difficult. It was done in secret. It was hidden… My self-worth was demolished, and I began to lose sight of my true identity. I was able to hide my ugliness on the inside, and that meant no one could call it out. There was no accountability,” she wrote.
More specifically, Robertson’s struggles started after her stint in ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” It came to a point when the reality TV star’s eating disorder and negative body image ruled her everyday life, and she no longer saw the world as clearly as she did before.
“It was like looking in a magic mirror, you know, those ones that distort the image? Except it was my mind changing what I saw. My thoughts instantly went to the imperfections. The blemishes. The flaws. At least five times a day, I would wrap my hands around my thighs, making sure they hadn’t grown beyond what I could reach. I knew each little calorie that was in every bite of food I took. I talked about food all the time,” she shared.
But at present, Robertson has come to terms with the fact that there is no such thing as “perfection.” Even though she is 15 pounds heavier than she was when she competed in “Dancing With the Stars,” she said, “I am feeling good.” But this doesn’t also mean that her old thoughts don’t come back from time to time. “But it is my job to take authority over them,” she concluded.
Meanwhile, Robertson recently opened up about her breakup from Blake Coward after three years of dating. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 20-year-old admitted that she and Coward weren’t on good terms when they broke up. But after a couple of months, they decided to talk about their experiences through Robertson’s blog and are now friends.
