SacRT conducting daytime testing of new low-floor trains

(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento Regional Transit users are closer than ever to having easier access to the city-wide light rail system with the introduction of low-floor trains this summer.

SacRT shared that they will begin daytime testing of these new trains from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday between Watt/Manlove and 13th Street stations.

New feature for Sacramento light rail being tested

The new trains will run in between the existing trains in operation, but passengers will not be able to board them.

“Decals will be on the windows and doors that read “Test Train, Do Not Board” and caution tape will be across the doors on the inside, preventing customers from boarding the new trains,” SacRT wrote in a news release.

This training serves as a break-in period for the new low-floor trains that require 1,000 miles of track operation before they can begin passenger service.

Evening riders along the north area of the Blue Line between Watt/I-80 and Royal Oaks station will be provided bus bridges from 11 p.m. to the end of service Monday through Friday.

SacRT to unveil new logo this year, seeks public input

Over the last several months, SacRT has been preparing stations along the light-rail system for the new low-floor trains by removing ramps to access the outgoing high-floor trains.

SacRT plans to have the low-floor trains ready for passenger service this summer.
