Sacramento Republic FC gets first win of 2024 season against Miami FC

(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento Republic FC’s defense was one of the premium storylines of its 2023 season, but so far it is a new addition on offense that has made waves for the club in just its second match: forward Trevor Amann.

Amann, who is playing in his first year with the squad, has scored three goals in two matches.

On Saturday, Amann scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Miami FC. His goal came in the 59th minute.

Fresh off being named Player of the Week, Amann received a cross from defenseman Jack Gurr and sent a header into the back of the net in the match’s second half.

The ball was beautifully kicked off of the left foot of Gurr over the heads of multiple Miami FC defenders. (And it was the defender’s first assist of the 2024 season.)

Danny Vitiello, Sacramento Republic FC’s award-winning goalie, contributed three saves to the team’s first clean sheet of the season; he was named Man of the Match.

The match also served as Vitiello’s season debut.

Saturday’s match also featured a bit of history in the 89th minute as Sacramento native Blake Willey, 16, made his professional debut. Willey was a member of Sacramento Republic’s youth development academy.

Sacramento Republic FC will play on the road again in its next match, next Saturday at Indy Eleven. Kickoff is set for 4 pm PT, and it can be watched on FOX40.com or in the FOX40 app.
