Sacha Baron Cohen Slammed By Brian May Over Freddie Mercury Biopic

Queen’s Brian May has blasted actor Sacha Baron Cohen after he allegedly pulled out of making a biopic about singer Freddie Mercury.

The legendary guitarist has never been one to mince his words, and now Cohen has felt his wrath over the inaccuracies in the proposed film.

May revealed he was furious at the ‘Grimsby’ star after the comments he made to Howard Stern in a radio interview in regards to the reason he left the project.

“I said, ‘Listen, not one person is going to see a movie where the lead character dies from AIDS and then you see the band carry on,’” the comedian controversially explained.

Obviously the comments wouldn’t be taken too kindly by May or fellow surviving bandmates Roger Taylor and John Deacon, and he wasn’t holding back when he spoke to Event magazine: “Sacha became an a**e. We had some nice times with Sacha kicking around ideas but he went off and told untruths about what happened. Why would he go away and say that we didn’t want to make a gritty film?”

But May hadn’t finished with him, as he went on to berate Cohen’s latest film ‘Grimsby’ and question the talents of the actor himself: “We decided he wasn’t right for the role for very good reasons, which will become apparent if you watch what he’s done recently,’ the musician said.

“It’s obvious that it wasn’t going to work, him playing Freddie. It wouldn’t suspend your disbelief.”

Ouch.

And with that it looks like, even if the project were to be financed, these two certainly won’t be working on it together.
