Ryanair's hand luggage rules changed today
Ryanair is known for providing low-cost, no-frills flights to destinations all over Europe. They are also known for charging serious £££ if you want anything added onto your flight; speedy boarding, a hold bag, an on-board drink, all of these could soon make your budget flight much more expensive.
And this week, the airline has put new baggage rules into effect, changing the way it charges for hand luggage onboard its planes.
The reason Ryanair is making the move is due to expensive hold luggage putting people off checking luggage in altogether. Instead, more passengers take free cabin luggage onboard using up all the room in the cabin and forcing the airline to check numerous hand luggage into the hold for free.
In order to try to persuade passengers to pay to check in their luggage, Ryanair has reduced the cost of a bag from €35 to €25 and increased the size of the bag you can take from 15kg to 20kg.
Hand luggage rules have changed, too. Only customers who have paid for priority boarding (€5 at the time of booking), family plus, flexi plus or plus airfares can bring both their cabin bag and their handbag onboard. Without this, you will be forced to put your free cabin bag into the hold and enjoy all the long queues waiting for your luggage at the other end.
Here's a handy video Ryanair made to explain it all:

Today, Ryanair's new policy came into effect and people are not happy about it.
There was a time when baggage was free so we all checked it in. Then they charged to check it in so we took it on board. But there’s not enough room so they charged for that too.
So we go back to checking in our bags... but now we pay for it.
See what they did?#Ryanair #Genius- Derek Jones (@Degsycom) January 15, 2018
