Ryan Reynolds' four year old has not watched his R-rated "Deadpool" films. But she's still proud of her dad for playing the Merc With a Mouth.

According to Reynolds, who chatted on the phone from Tokyo while promoting his film "Pokemon: Detective Pikachu," his daughter James likes to tell strangers wearing "Deadpool" swag, "My daddy's Deadpool!"

"It's very touching to me," Reynolds, 42, says. "(My daughters) know I'm Deadpool because they were on set a lot. In ("Detective Pikachu") they weren't on set more than a couple of days."

As a result, his two children with Blake Lively, James and two-year-old Inez, have no idea that their father is voicing the tiny yellow monster Pikachu in the upcoming live-action film.

"My older daughter has said (about Pikachu): 'You sound exactly like that guy!'"

Once they see the movie, "they'll see why," Reynolds says. He's not giving himself away just yet.

It will be more fun to have a big reveal after Reynolds' daughters realize that the character not only has his voice, but also incorporates his "micro facial expressions," as Reynolds explains.

The actor did his first motion-capture performance for the role. "They scale it down and put it on a character who's much more rotund and small and round."

But before the girls screen the film, which is out May 10, they'll continue to obsess over PIkachu, without knowing their dad's relationship with the character.

Pikachu is "like catnip to children," Reynolds says.
