ARLINGTON, Texas – The Biogenesis investigation and its consequences merged Monday afternoon, Ryan Braun was suspended for 65 games, and New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi cast a weary hand across his own cheek.

"Well, I think I’m tired of the steroids," he said. "I’m tired of that. Do things the right way, bottom line."

His words were significant. Two of his players – Alex Rodriguez and Francisco Cervelli – have been tied by documents to the clinic. Both have denied purchasing illegal performance-enhancing drugs from Biogenesis or its founder, Tony Bosch. So did Braun.

"There are a lot of guys doing it the right way and I respect those guys," Girardi said. "It’s disappointing. It’s just another black eye for the game.

"I just like to see people do things the right way."

MLB’s message, the suspension of Braun, and so much of what the game has endured over the past decade or so, according to Girardi, points to a single outcome.

“If you cheat and lie,” he said, “you’re eventually going to get caught.”
