Russia's shadow war in Europe escalates, seeks to deter Ukraine support — Estonian PM

Russia has intensified its shadow war against all European countries to deter the West from aiding Ukraine, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said during a meeting of the Baltic Council of Ministers, the Associated Press reported on May 14.

"Russia wants to scare and intimidate the free world to deter us from helping Ukraine," Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said. "We shouldn’t be scared."

Russia must lose the war for the sake of Ukraine, European security, and the global order, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa said.

"We have to remember that we are living in wartime in Europe. This is a war that disturbs societies in Europe," she said. "And this war is growing here just in our neighborhood."

Estonian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Kyllike Sillaste-Elling said that Western partners of Ukraine should remain open to any proposals regarding support for Ukrainians in the war against Russia, including deploying Western troops to Ukraine.
