A network of Russian spies was operating in Romania, having entered the country posing as Ukrainian refugees, G4 Media outlet reported on April 16, citing Romania’s Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT).

According to the report, these individuals were collecting intelligence on military exercises, aid to Ukraine, the security situation in Romania, and the country’s defense capabilities.

The spies infiltrated groups of Ukrainian refugees in Romania, attempting to gather details on military training and troop deployments.

The main objective of the Russian agents was to acquire information related to defense and national security, particularly focusing on Romania’s military aid to Ukraine.

These spies were also spreading disinformation about the Romanian military and attempting to influence public opinion. CSAT disclosed several vulnerabilities exposed by this operation, including increased military incidents, Russian cyberattacks, and sabotage of aid shipments to Ukraine.

The CSAT also notes that the security climate in the Black Sea region is deteriorating due to the Russian aggression.
