The shelling of a residential area in Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, by the Russians resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to three others, Ukraine's Interior Ministry reported on Telegram on May 12.

All those affected are members of the same family. They were trapped under the rubble of their house due to shelling.

Officials noted that one man managed to escape the rubble on his own. Rescuers extracted two other men. A 74-year-old woman died in the incident.

The Ministry reported that the shelling damaged dozens of houses and multi-story residential buildings in the city.

Russian offensive in Kharkiv Oblast

Russian occupation forces attempted to breach Ukraine’s defenses near Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, at 5 a.m. on May 10. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense confirmed the incident, noting that Ukrainian forces repelled the attacks.

The Russians also heavily shelled border settlements.

Tamaz Gambarashvili, the mayor of Vovchansk, reported on May 10 that more than 250 local residents had been evacuated from Vovchansk and nearby settlements. He added that many people fled on their own, leaving authorities uncertain about the exact number of evacuees.

Military observer Denys Popovych stated that the Russians lack sufficient forces to attack Kharkiv but might attempt to capture Vovchansk.
