A Russian mass missile strike on Ukraine killed one person in Zaporizhzhya Oblast and injured eight others, regional governor Ivan Fedorov reported on national television on March 22.

The Russians launched nearly 20 missiles at the oblast within just a few hours, deliberately targeting critical infrastructure and hitting exclusively civilian objects.

At least two people are missing, Fedorov said on Telegram.

The attack destroyed and damaged infrastructure objects, and struck the Dnipro Hydroelectric Plant, halting traffic on the dam. Ten houses and over 35 multi-story buildings were damaged.

Rescue teams are currently operating at the strike sites, while municipal services are assessing the extent of the damage and the recovery needs, he said.

Fedorov promised to provide updated information regarding the consequences of the mass strike when the assessments by the aforementioned services are completed.

The Russian military launched its most extensive attack of 2024 on Ukraine's energy system on the morning of March 22, targeting multiple oblasts with cruise and ballistic missiles, and drones.

The Russians launched at least 60 drones and 90 missiles of various types, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Russian forces attacked Ukraine using 151 means of aerial attack, reported Ukrainian Air Force Commander, Mykola Oleshchuk. The air defense forces intercepted 92 – 55 Shahed-136/131 drones and 37 missiles.

Damage to infrastructure and energy facilities has been confirmed in Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhya, Kryvyi Rih, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv oblasts.

Russia hit critical infrastructure objects in Kryvyi Rih, and the city has implemented rolling blackouts to compensate for power outages.

Additional blackouts have been introduced in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Odesa oblasts. Virtually the entire city of Kharkiv is without power, with power and water supply interruptions. Electrically powered public transport has also been suspended following the attack.
