Russian military intelligence (GRU) employees, unlike Russian security service (FSB) agents, exhibit a higher level of intellect and awareness, along with a strong imperialistic mindset, former Ukrainian prisoner of war, Azov officer, and defender of Mariupol, Arsen Dmytryk (Lemko), said on NV Radio on April 11.

Dmytryk recounted his interactions with GRU personnel following his capture at Azovstal, noting interrogations at three levels: GRU, FSB, and “MGB DPR” (the Ministry of State Security of Donetsk People’s Republic).

“The GRU agents, particularly the officers among them, are the only ones who truly understand and openly acknowledge the events unfolding in their society,” Dmytryk said.

“They are fully aware of their extensive information network and invest significant resources in it. One lieutenant colonel even remarked, ‘If your information network worked as effectively as ours, we would think twice before advancing or not.’ It’s remarkably effective. They are formidable imperialists.”

During his exchanges with GRU, Dmytryk inquired about potential consequences if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin were to perish.

“The response was: ‘Nothing terrible, we’ll find a new one,’” Dmytryk relayed.

“Their primary aim is the empire — maintaining it at all costs. No empire can sustain itself without military action. History bears this out — empires inevitably crumble without it, it’s just a matter of time. They grasp this concept well.”

The defense of Azovstal Steelworks in Mariupol spanned from March 18 to May 20, 2022. Azovstal defenders neutralized approximately 6,000 Russian troops during this period.

Russian forces targeted Azovstal positions with numerous daily strikes, employing aviation, tanks, and heavy artillery.
