The Russian troops have advanced several kilometers on the Avdiivka front because they found "weaknesses" in Ukrainian defense, said Ivan Tymochko, Chairman of the Council of Reservists of the Ukrainian army, during the national telethon on April 28.

"Unfortunately, there are a number of negative aspects there (in the Avdiivka sector) that led to a tactical level situation," he said.

“Efforts are being made to prevent it from turning into a serious threat.”

The Russians will try to break through from Ocheretyne towards Pokrovsk. They have already accumulated personnel for this plan.

It is now important to prevent the enemy from deploying a bridgehead, which, in turn, could turn into a breakthrough.

"On the one hand, it is a pity that the enemy managed to advance several kilometers," said Tymochko.

“But on the other hand, we understand that the enemy was unable to expand on the Avdiivka front as they planned – towards Vuhledar, Pokrovsk, Kurakhove to capture Donetsk Oblast in the southern direction.”

The Russian forces were able to "find weaknesses" in the Ukrainian defense due to a "chronic shortage of ammunition," the head of the Ground Forces Reservists Council stated.

"The enemy tried to take advantage of their window of opportunity," he added.

“The question is what losses they are willing to suffer in order to hold the occupied foothold they were trying to expand. Of course, the fighting there will be very fierce. The commander-in-chief (Oleksandr Syrskyi - ed.) said that additional military units and additional means of destruction were sent there.”

The situation in Ocheretyne

The Russians managed to gain a foothold near Ocheretyne, Donetsk Oblast, having used four brigades to achieve success in this area, the spokesman for the Khortytsia operational and strategic troop grouping, Nazar Voloshyn, said on April 27.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are taking all measures to stabilize the situation on the Avdiivka front and regain control over Ocheretyne.

Prior to that, Voloshyn said that Ukraine's defenders controlled most of the settlements of Ocheretyne and Solovyove in Donetsk Oblast.

Roman Pohorilyi, co-founder and analyst of the DeepState platform, in an interview with Radio NV, said that the frontline had failed and that the command of the 115th Separate Mechanized Brigade was responsible for the heavy losses in Ocheretyne.
