After the Russian military destroyed the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant in Kyiv Oblast, Centrenergo lost 100 percent of its generation, the company said in a statement on April 11.

"A dark day in the history of Centrenergo," the message reads.

“As a result of today's massive attack, our entire generation was destroyed. Russian troops completely destroyed Trypillia TPP in Kyiv Oblast.”

The employees of the TPP were not injured, but a fire broke out at the facility. Andriy Hota, chairman of the supervisory board of Centrenergo, called the scale of the destruction terrible, which cannot be estimated by money.

"This is the biggest challenge for us in the history of the company. But I am convinced that we will cope with it," he said.

Hota announced the complete destruction of the Trypillia TPP in Ukrainka, Kyiv Oblast, as a result of a new massive Russian strike on the power grid on April 11. Rescuers continue to extinguish the fire, said the regional authorities.

Russian strikes destroyed the Zmiyiv TPP in Kharkiv Oblast on March 22, 2024. Another Centrenergo plant, Vuhlehirsk TPP in Donetsk Oblast, has been under occupation since July 2022.

Russian massive attack on the power system on April 11

Russia attacked Ukraine with Shahed suicide drones, cruise missiles from Tu-95MS aircraft, Kinzhals from MiG-31K, and guided missiles from Su-34 overnight on April 10-11. Poland scrambled aircraft again during the Russian attack on Ukraine.

At least 10 strikes were carried out in Kharkiv and the region, and the city is experiencing new problems with electricity.

Lviv Oblast, in particular the town of Stryi, was also under heavy combined strikes.

In Zaporizhzhya Oblast, a missile hit a power facility. In Kyiv Oblast, a critical infrastructure facility was also attacked, and a fire broke out at the facility, the regional administration reported.

Energy Minister German Halushchenko said that the power system of four oblasts – Kyiv, Lviv, Zaporizhzhya, and Kharkiv – was hit. Two DTEK thermal power plants were seriously damaged.

In total, Russia used 82 aerial munitions against Ukraine on April 11. The defense forces shot down 39 of the 40 Shahed drones and 18 of the 42 missiles launched by Russia in several waves. The missiles that failed to be shot down included six Kinzhals, 12 S-300 anti-aircraft missiles, two of four X-59s, and several missiles out of 20 X-101s/X-555s.
