A Russian plane dropped a guided aerial bomb on a residential area in Kupyansk, Kharkiv Oblast overnight on March 12, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) reported early in the morning.

A five-story residential building was partially destroyed, and several fires appeared as a result of the attack, the SES wrote.

“Apartments on the first three floors were on fire in one entrance, and another apartment was on fire in another entrance,” they added.

“The total area of the fires was 150 square meters (1,614 ft²).”

"The fire was extinguished as of 04:15 EET,” the SES said.

“The rescuers examined the damaged building, no dead or injured were found."

Russians hit Kupyansk with a guided aerial bomb with a cluster charge for the first time on March 3.

A group of 122,000 Russian troops massed on the Lyman-Kupyansk front, Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Group spokesperson, Illia Yevlash, reported the same day.

Russia plans to recapture Kupyansk by March 2024 - the same time as Russia's next presidential election, Forbes magazine wrote earlier.

Russia has not given up on retaking this territory since Ukraine liberated Kupyansk in September 2022, Synehubov said earlier.
