Russia suffers loss of 450,000 soldiers in Ukraine – British Minister of State for the Armed Forces

Approximately 450,000 Russian troops have been killed or wounded since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine, as estimated by British Minister of State for the Armed Forces Leo Doherty, according to the UK Defense Journal’s report on April 27.

He clarified that exact number of liquidated military personnel who served in private companies is unknown.

Also, according to British estimates, Russians lost:

  • more than 10.000 armored vehicles, including about 3.000 main battle tanks

  • 109 airplanes

  • 136 helicopters

  • 346 unmanned aerial vehicles

  • 23 ships of all classes

  • more than 1500 artillery systems of all types.

This is only an estimate of equipment that was destroyed, captured, or abandoned in Ukraine.

Russian losses in Ukraine

According to General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of April 28, Russian army lost about 466.000 soldiers in Ukraine, including 1.100 in the past day.

These are irrecoverable losses and combat sanitary losses of enemy, spokesman for General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalev, said earlier.

In February, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russian losses amounted to 180.000 killed and up to half a million wounded.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that, according to Western intelligence services, Russian losses since beginning of full-scale invasion of Ukraine have exceeded 350.000 people on March 14.

Nazar Voloshyn, spokesman for Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Groop of Troops, said that 85 percent of Russian losses were concluded in the eastern sector on April 25. This applies to both personnel and equipment.
