Russia ramping up disinformation campaign against Zelenskyy — report

U.S. intelligence has registered an uptick in Moscow’s efforts to discredit Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, CNN reported on May 15, citing an unnamed U.S. official.
The official stated that while Russia has been spreading disinformation about Zelenskyy since before the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, recent intelligence indicates that "it’s undoubtedly increasing."
“That’s why we’re briefing our allies and partners about this,” the official said.
“We want to make sure that this type of Russian disinformation doesn’t take hold…”
According to intelligence reports, Russia has focused its disinformation efforts on two primary areas: the retreat of Ukrainian troops from Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, and the postponement of Ukraine's presidential elections due to the war, which were initially scheduled for this spring.

Washington is reportedly more concerned about the impact of Russian disinformation on foreign countries rather than within Ukraine itself.
According to Ukrainian law, presidential or parliamentary elections cannot be held while martial law remains in effect.
On Feb. 20, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology released a study showing that a substantial majority of Ukrainians — 69% — believe Zelenskyy should remain in office until the end of martial law.
