Russia has lost more than 90 aircraft in Ukraine, Canadian intelligence says

The report further assesses that several Russian aircraft were destroyed or “damaged to the point of inoperability” in the series of explosions at Novofedorivka airfield near Saky, Crimea.

Russian losses at the airfield will likely diminish Moscow’s capacity to project air power over occupied areas of southern Ukraine and north-western Black Sea, Canadian intelligence believes.
A series of blasts rocked the Novofedorivka airfield near Saky, in Russia-occupied Crimea, on Aug. 9. Russia claims “several aviation munitions detonated,” causing the “accident” that killed one person and injured 14.

Forbes later reported that between eight and twenty-four Russian aircraft were destroyed by the explosions.
No cause has yet been established for the blasts, though an anonymous Ukrainian defense official has indicated that a Ukrainian special forces group may have been responsible.
