Russia’s law enforcement crisis: 152,000 officers short amid funding concerns

Amid the ongoing war against Ukraine, the Kremlin regime has begun to run out of law enforcement personnel, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said during his speech at the Federation Council on May 15.

The department currently lacks more than 150,000 employees.

The reason for this is not the enormous Russian losses in Ukraine, some of which are borne by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but the lack of funding, Kolokoltsev claimed.

“We cannot print money and increase salaries as the main motive for recruiting people to serve in the police,” the Russian minister complained, answering a question about the shortage of personnel.

“And the situation has not only changed, it has worsened. I can say that today we are short-staffed by 152,000 personnel. This is the average for all regions. And if you take such regions as Primorye, for example, the shortage is 25%.”

Meanwhile, thanks to former prisoners who have returned from the war, the crime rate in Russia continues to grow rapidly.
