Russia interfered in the 2016 election, and Ukraine tried to: Rep. Andy Biggs

Russia interfered in our 2016 presidential election. Ukrainians attempted to influence our 2016 election. The Mueller report found no collusion or conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the bad actors of 2016.

With monotonous repetition, Democrats argue that it is a binary choice. Either you believe that the Russians interfered or that the Ukrainians interfered. That is false. Both countries attempted to interfere in 2016.

The evidence of collusion between Americans and foreign actors indicates that the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee did the colluding.

The thoroughly debunked “Steele dossier,” which was a foundation of the entire Russian hoax, involved a Brit working with Russians to create a hyperfantasy of personal peccadillos with which to sully then-candidate Donald Trump. The intent was to damage his campaign.

Ukrainian officials attempted to influence the election as well. A Politico piece in Jan. 11, 2017, concludes, “Politico’s investigation found evidence of Ukrainian government involvement in the race that appears to strain diplomatic protocol dictating that governments refrain from engaging in one another’s elections.”

OUR VIEW: No, Ukraine didn't interfere in the 2016 election

A Ukraine court ruling, later reversed on procedural issues, described two Ukrainian defendants as acting to interfere in the 2016 election. The Financial Times published a piece describing the Ukrainian leader’s campaign against Trump. They join award-winning journalist John Solomon in detailing Ukraine’s attempt to influence the 2016 election.

The tie to the DNC is a shadowy figure named Alexandra Chalupa, who was a DNC operative in contact with Ukrainian Ambassador Valeriy Chaly. Chalupa was trying to get dirt on Trump and Trump’s short-lived campaign manager Paul Manafort from the Ukrainians.

Democrats paraded a slew of American diplomats working in Ukraine to testify in the impeachment inquiry. Not one had heard the allegations of Ukraine’s attempts to interfere in the election. When apprised of the media reports, they condemned the attempt to influence our election.

The Democrats deny that multiple countries attempted to interfere in our election because they still can’t believe Trump won. And Hillary Clinton and DNC were the colluders, not Trump.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.
