Amid concerns that Russia could open another front in its war on Ukraine by attacking Sumy Oblast, it doesn't appear they have enough forces in position, Siversk (Sumy) tactical group spokesperson, Vadym Mysnyk, said on national TV.

Russia has only a small military grouping near Sumy Oblast - enough to carry out sporadic offensives, not a large-scale operation, he said.

He was commenting on Ukrainian Military Intelligence (HUR) chief Kyrylo Budanov's remarks about Russia's military on the border of Sumy Oblast.

Russia keeps a small military group in the border area near Sumy Oblast, Budanov said, calling these resources “rather limited”.

"They do not have a large enough concentration - the forces are more dispersed making it possible to collect equipment and personnel at a certain moment to carry out some offensive actions," Mysnyk said.

No full-scale grouping can be observed now, he said.

"We are preparing for defense and to repel any attack in any direction," Mysnyk said.

The border with Russia in Sumy Oblast is quite large - 560 kilometers, Mysnyk noted.

"The situation remains tense,” he said.

“The enemy adheres to his tactics of shelling border settlements in Sumy Oblast with all the weapons at his disposal."
