Russia's top military leadership has ordered its soldiers to capture Chasiv Yar in Donetsk Oblast by May 9, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Facebook.

After spending two days in a critical and perilous area, Syrskyi provided an update on the frontline situation, emphasizing the enemy's concentrated efforts to breach Ukrainian defenses near Bakhmut and advance towards the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal. The ultimate aim is to capture Chasiv Yar and pave the way for further incursions into the Kramatorsk agglomeration.

Despite the adversary's relentless assaults, Ukrainian defenders have heroically repelled daily attacks, thwarting the enemy's plans. Syrskyi highlighted the resilience of Ukrainian forces, who have effectively countered the enemy's advances, including using kamikaze strikes and artillery fire to neutralize enemy infantry groups.

However, the threat persists, with Russia's military leadership issuing a clear directive to capture Chasiv Yar by May 9.

"Russia's top military leadership has set a task for its troops to capture Chasiv Yar by May 9," Syrskyi said.

To bolster Ukrainian defenses in the region, efforts have been made to reinforce brigades with additional ammunition, drones, and electronic warfare equipment.

Syrskyi stressed the importance of enhancing training quality, focusing on the moral and psychological aspects, and deploying high-tech unmanned systems operated by trained personnel to diminish the enemy's combat capabilities.

Management efficiency is being improved to better support combat units and ensure the readiness of reserves.

"The main task of these measures is to increase the combat capability of our troops, save the lives of our soldiers, disrupt the enemy's plans, and ensure the training of reserves. The fight continues," Syrskyi said.

Syrskyi had previously noted a significant deterioration in the situation on the eastern front.

The DeepState monitoring portal reported on April 13 that Russians occupied the village of Bohdanivka and advanced near Chasiv Yar. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry, however, denied the reports of the occupation of Bohdanivka.
