Russell's Baxter Community Center is getting a major facelift. Here's what to expect

Description: Louisville Metro Housing Authority Jailen Leavell said an expansion and renovations at the Baxter Community Center, funded through money from the American Rescue Plan Act, are expected to be completed by Summer 2024.
The space next to Baxter Square Park in the Russell neighborhood will have many new features, including a lounge area, a gymnasium, a refurbished basketball court and an outdoor plaza and playground. Expanded parking will also be added to the west side of the center, officials said.
"With these enhancements, the Baxter Community Center is poised to become a focal point of our neighborhood, catering to diverse interests and needs within our community," Leavell said.
Leavell did not offer a more specific date when the project could be completed.
Cost: $8.98 million
Size: 14,436 square feet, including a 4,525 square foot wing to be added to the existing complex.
